What's Going On Here?

Algebra I is designed to introduce students to the wide field of math known as, you guessed it, Algebra.

Although many people think of Algebra as simply equations and variables, Algebra should be more aptly thought of as a way of thinking. Problem solving skills are becoming increasingly sought after in the modern work place, and being able to critically assess a situation and give a logical conclusion based on those observations is tremendously important. This course will cover topics such as solving equations, properties of different types of numbers, graphing, and some basic functions; but the main objective is to lay a solid foundation or logic and reasoning in order to foster future mathematical exploration and discovery.

My goal as a teacher is to hopefully show each student that math shouldn't be scary, and that it can actually begin to be fun when you stop obsessing over being right all the time and take a little time to follow your thoughts and ideas and to create instead of passively memorizing facts and figures.

This website is designed to support students throughout this whole process. It is my intent to keep it updated as much as humanly possible so that you are not left in the dark. Please feel free to wander through the other pages and see what is going on in Algebra I. I am excited for this year and the opportunities that it will offer!

Need a Syllabus? Got Class Cup Fever?

Check out the Algebra 1 Syllabus either as a downloadable Microsoft Word Document (to the right), or as a printable .jpeg file below! Also, check out what the "Class Cup" is and how it works! Long story short, if classes participate, turn in homework, and do well on tests, they score points. The class with the most points at the end of the semester earns a 'food day' of some sort, usually something that they can vote on! You can even scroll down to see all the different mascots that prior classes have created!
